APPLICATION | Young Choreographers Festival
VIEW FORM | Applications Due 11/2 | Performance FEB 26
We invite you to choreograph and/or dance in YCF this year! Dance at TAPS will be hosting the fourth annual Young Choreographers Festival (YCF) at Roble Gym Big Studio 113—The date has been set for Friday, February 26th.
What is it that makes YCF different from other student choreography opportunities?
- Support from TAPS in tech, costumes, and guaranteed rehearsal space
- TAPS Dance faculty mentor support
- NO time limits for the length of your piece (don’t perform a two-act play, but you’re not restricted to 4–5 minutes!)
- NO restrictions on TAPS/VSO affiliation of your cast members (i.e. you can have dancers from different VSOs in your piece) or the size of your cast (...if you’ve wanted to perform a solo, this is the perfect opportunity!)
- More time and support for personalized tech and lighting!
- Academic credit for your hard work (2 units for choreographers and 1 unit for dancers)
Other than student-led rehearsals and performance week, programming for YCF includes the following:
- Choreographers are required to have 3 check-ins with their faculty mentor leading up to the performance. These check-ins can happen whenever is convenient for you, so long as each check-in is done no later than its associated deadline.
- 2 informal showings with all of the faculty and casts present… a great time for a progress check and to receive feedback!
- …more is outlined in the sign up form!
We’d love for there to be lots of student choreographers and dancers this year! Please navigate to the sign-up form (both CHOREOGRAPHERS and DANCERS). It will contain much of the information you may have questions about
The deadline to sign up is Monday, November 2nd at 11:59pm.
Orientation will be held on Zoom on Friday, November 6th. Time TBD.
If you have any questions, please reach out to a Dance Minor Peer Advisor: Denise Robinson ([email protected]) and/or Michael Ohayon ([email protected]).
