The course will provide theoretical and practical training on advance analytical instrumentation i.e., mass spectrometry based omics techniques and genome scale modeling to identify metabolic pathways and to engineer algal cell factories for biofuel production. The course defines a basic workflow to design an experiment i.e., nutrient deprivation triggers lipid production followed by over view of analytical procedures such as GC-MS, LC-MS and to evaluate the metabolic pathways involved in production of biofuel precursors. Understanding metabolic networks will provide an efficient framework to describe cellular metabolism in algae and can be important tool in metabolic engineering, and strain optimization. Genome-scale models integrated with omics data, such as transcriptional profiling, allows development of a meaningful systemic representation of metabolism that could improve the production of triacylglycerols (TAGs) and other biochemicals.
