WHAT IS THE BIG READ?
An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book.
Center for Arts-Inspired Learning is one of 75 nonprofit organizations to receive an NEA Big Read grant to host a community reading program this year. Led by the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning, the NEA Big Read in Cleveland will take place September 23 – November 16, 2017 in partnership with Cleveland Public Library, Lake Erie Ink, Literary Cleveland, and Great Lakes Theater.
This year’s Big Read celebrates…
STATION ELEVEN BY EMILY ST. JOHN MANDEL
Station Eleven is set in the Great Lakes region, twenty years after a global flu pandemic wiped out most of the world’s population. The story primarily follows the Traveling Symphony, a small troupe of classical musicians and Shakespearean actors who move between settlements of survivors to perform. Their motto: “Because survival is insufficient.”
