Congregation Emanu El is moving Shabbat on the Green to Evelyn’s Park.
The first synagogue in the Houston area to ‘step outside its walls’ for Shabbat on an annual basis will continues its tradition of doing so on Friday, November 3 for this year’s edition of Shabbat on the Green.
Evelyn’s Park is the fourth different venue to host the event, following previous stops at Discovery Green in downtown, Colonial Park in West University and Godwin Park in southwest Houston.
The entire community is invited to celebrate Shabbat with Emanu El.
The evening will begin with a picnic and schmooze beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the park. The service will kick off at 6 p.m. led by Rabbis Pam Silk and Josh Fixler, along with Cantor Rollin Simmons.
The highly-participatory Shabbat service will be followed by a short musical celebration led by Cantor Simmons, who is in first year at Congregation Emanu El.
Guests are encouraged to bring their food and picnic blanket for the event, which is free and open to the community.
Parking for the event is in the Bellaire United Methodist Church Scout House parking lot located on the southwest corner of Bellaire Boulevard and Newcastle. The address is 4511 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, TX 77401. The synagogue has hired officers with the Bellaire Police Department to assist our guests across Bellaire Blvd. from the parking lot to the park.
