World Class Diving in Truk Lagoon

World Class Wreck diving in Truk Lagoon. February 2019.
Known to many as the wreck capital of the World, Truk, once a WWII Japanese stronghold, was destroyed by the Americans in 1944 during World War II. More aircraft and ships went down in a two day attack (Operation Hailstorm) than any other during the war. Today these wrecks, consisting of over 60 ships and more than 250 airplanes, give divers a solemn insight with many still carrying their cargo, personal affects, guns, ammunitions and explosives now covered with corals in warm, clear waters. Truk Lagoon lies nestled in the South West Pacific. This area offers perfect year round diving in fantastic coral sea temperatures with all the wrecks lying within the sheltered lagoon.
We have opted to stay on the Truk Odyssey, quite apt for us I guess, but unfortunately not owned by this dive centre. Truk Odyssey is a luxury 40 Metre steel hulled liveaboard accommodating 16 divers. Each Cabin has individual air-conditioning, TV, DVD and windows or portholes. The bar and dining area is bright and airy with air-conditioning and large tinted picture windows. The entertainment lounge has a TV and DVD player, a well-stocked library and bar. The outdoor sun deck is the perfect place to relax under the sun shade after your dive or watch the sun go down. Odyssey is the perfect choice for all divers including technical divers with oxygen and a number of twin cylinders available on board for hire, and is rebreather friendly. With up to 5 dives a day planned, this is a great option for serious divers! I have just had two friends visit this area and although there are great penetration dives to be had equally there is some stunning coral too, so fantastic photography opportunities for those wishing to poodle around outside. Most Wrecks have great multilevel opportunities enabling divers to get the most out of their bottom time.
Diving is from the large dive platform complete with personal dive lockers, rinse tanks and freshwater showers. There are also two aluminium dive tenders if required. Photographers have a designated area with a 3-tier station and dedicated camera rinse tanks. Up to five dives a day are planned with a night dive offered each day. Experienced Divemasters accompany each dive, which are preceded by a full briefing.
Nitrox is included and technical diving is available.

The Odyssey boards on a Sunday to Sunday basis and this means that if you fly through Manila you need 2 nights either side at the Blue Lagoon Resort or you can fly in through Tokyo and have a day room on the Sunday (fly back early am Monday morning). There is an option to fly in via Seoul if you would like to take a look at this. This would require an overnight in Guam in both directions. Some of you who have expressed an interest in going on the trip would possibly like to go via Hawaii to take in the sights of Pearl Harbour. All these flights are possible and can be quoted for, so long as everyone arrives to board the liveaboard at the same time.

At this point all prices are subject to confirmation for that far ahead. Flights will usually be around 10-11 months before departure. The price I have given below is in my opinion a true reflection of what it could be. For departures as far away as this I need to advise that the price could go up.. or it could go down.. we are at the mercy of airlines! In all cases I will do my very best to get the best deal I can for you.
