Beyond the Bureaucracy: Unconventional Paths to Policy

Beyond the Bureaucracy: Unconventional Paths to Policy challenges the idea that public service is limited to traditional government agencies, policy think tanks, or standard fellowships. Moderated by Emma Woods, Vice Chair of Professional Development, this panel highlights how real-world policy impact is increasingly driven through non-traditional platforms, tech innovation, and digital advocacy. Hear from Ben Leffler (MPAff '12), Chief of Staff for Austin City Council District 5, who has navigated career pivots across political campaigns, civic tech, and municipal systems; Carlos Eduardo Espina, a viral digital creator (20M+ followers), legal professional, and advocate leveraging social media to translate complex legal and immigration issues for millions; Josh Levine (MPAff '12), a serial tech entrepreneur, AI founder, and former LBJ Alumni Board President bridging startups and municipal finance. Join us on Tuesday, Oct 27 at 5:15 PM in SRH 3.122 to explore how non-traditional mediums yield massive public policy impact and discover how to craft your own unique trajectory in the policy space. Light bites, snacks, and a soda bar will be provided!
