He has performed at venues including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London, as well as at renowned festivals in Salzburg and Verona. One of the defining chapters of his career was his collaboration of more than twelve years with conductor Herbert von Karajan. Carreras has also worked with many other leading figures in classical music, including Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Leonard Bernstein and Zubin Mehta. His operatic repertoire comprises more than sixty works, including La Boh?me, Tosca, Carmen, Don Carlo, Werther and Un Ballo in Maschera. Alongside his operatic career, he has regularly appeared in concert and recital, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Vienna Musikverein and the Berlin Philharmonie. Carreras made an indelible mark on popular culture as one of the Three Tenors, alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Their concerts were watched by billions of viewers around the world and helped bring opera to an audience on an unprecedented scale. Carreras has also received numerous major international honours, including a Grammy Award and the Prince of Asturias Award. His commitment to the fight against leukaemia has also become an important part of his life. Since 1988, he has presided over the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, established in Barcelona and subsequently expanded internationally. Its work was later complemented by the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, which is dedicated to leukaemia research and today employs more than 400 researchers. Plácido Domingo is celebrated as a legendary singer and an extraordinarily versatile artist. His extensive repertoire spans more than 150 roles across over 4,400 performances, while his career has also included notable ventures into popular music. Conducting is another significant part of his artistic life, with more than 600 opera performances and symphonic concerts to his credit. Following in his parents' footsteps, Domingo has passionately promoted Spanish zarzuela around the world. Over the course of his career, he has made more than one hundred recordings and 50 videos and received twelve Grammy Awards. He has starred in acclaimed opera films directed by Franco Zeffirelli and Francesco Rosi. Among the landmark moments of his career was the historic live television production of Tosca from its authentic locations in Rome, in which he performed the role of Cavaradossi and was watched by more than a billion television viewers. Domingo is also the founder of the prestigious international singing competition Operalia, dedicated to discovering and supporting new generations of vocal talent. During his career, he also led major opera companies in Washington and Los Angeles. His artistic achievements and humanitarian work have earned him numerous honours around the world, while his extraordinary career has continued for more than half a century.
