Kahlil Joseph on the Representation of Space and the Making of the Underground Museum

Join acclaimed filmmaker and artist Kahlil Joseph for a public conversation exploring the representation of space in his films, including the construction of Black space in his latest feature-length work, BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions. The conversation will also examine how these ideas take shape beyond the screen through the creation of Los Angeles’s acclaimed Underground Museum, a visionary cultural space dedicated to Black art, thought, and creative expression, which Joseph co-founded in 2012 alongside his family artists Noah Davis and sculptor Karon Davis.

This event is part of the Art and Art History Course An Architectural Imagination taught by Christian Ho as well as part of the ongoing work by Kahlil Joseph, BLKNWS on view as part of the permanent collection at the Harmony House, home of the Institute for Diversity in the Arts.

When: November 10, 2026, 5:30–8:00 p.m.
