Tiina Ketara: Ilmaan ripustetut hetket
"My exhibiton consists of six bead sculptures from the past few years. As my main mediums, I work with bead sculptures and installations.
This year I have completed a largescale sculpture Punainen poni. The sculpture is lifesize and inspired by the novella The Red Pony by John Steinbeck. The work deals with dreams, hope, responsibility, letting go and death.
The two largescale works on display are Hyppy tuntemattomaan and Pommihyppy. In Hyppy tuntemattomaan a jumper leaps into the unknown full of joy and anticipation. Through this life carries the jumper, that depicts the moment before a crash into water.
Other works include Kädenojennus. It depicts a hand lifting another into the air, as if from water or a deep pit. The work deals with themes of support and supporting. Kyynel depicts a large teardrop falling from the ceiling. Riivahenki deals with physical and mental possession.
Beads make up the whole of the sculpture ”body”. Beads are suspended from a line attached to a polycarbonate structure suspended from the ceiling with hooks and wires. This gives the illusion of the sculpture floating. These works are like momentary flashes.
In my works I aim to utilise the qualities of beads with whom I aim to crystallise archetypal shapes and memories. I aim to create a spellbinding atmosphere or feeling."
